The Stephanie Erin Bethel Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund was established August 20, 2020 , the third anniversary of her death at Lipscomb University.
While progress has been made since Stevie's death, more money is needed for research! My constant prayer as Stevie's mother is that a cure is found in my lifetime. Please also visit her tribute page on Lupus Foundation of America's website to donate.
Stephanie Erin Bethel wrote under the name of Stevie Beth until her death from a 20 year battle with lupus on August 20, 2017. She completed 20 amazing coloring art works just a few weeks prior to her passing.
Stevie Bethel as she was known by her many Facebook friends chronicled her health challenges on FB, inspiring many with her perseverance and courage, living a life filled with great physical pain and suffering, but never losing her sense of humor.
As a child, Steph was a gifted writer. She wrote an amazing Thanksgiving story when she was just 7 years old. At age 11 in her graduation ceremony from Southwest Montessori School (Atlanta, GA), her teacher, Charleen, stated that Steph's gift to the world would be with the written word.
At Horizons School (Atlanta, GA), her teachers nurtured and encouraged her writing through high school, and in 2001, she graduated from Lipscomb University (Nashville, TN) earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with an English major.
Life, Love and Lupus was Stevie's first published book.
"When Mary discovered the pain she was experiencing doing every-day things at school and at home was due to a disease called lupus, she was determined not to let it affect her life. What she didn't know at the time was that the physical challenges of lupus would pale in comparison to the emotional challenges she would face when she fell in love with two very different men-and found that neither of them felt quite the same way about her. Never one to give up in the face of any obstacle, Mary began her long-term endeavor to change their minds."
Life, Love and Lupus is the story of Mary's battle to overcome unrequited love and go after what she most desires, whatever the consequences and regardless of the limitations. Through narrative description, journal entries and email exchanges, the reader is taken along on an intimate journey with the sharp-witted Mary as she follows her hopes and dreams and finds out that sometimes you have to learn to love yourself first."
Stevie had begun work on a second book, and also announced her intention to take the advice of her Facebook friends, to use her entries to write a third book.
